Jim Windell, M.A., is a parent trainer, family counselor and author specializing in work with children and their parents for 40 years. He is a court clinical psychologist with the Oakland County Circuit Court’s Psychological Clinic, where he conducts group therapy with delinquent adolescents and runs the high-conflict post-divorce group ADEPT. In past years as a psychotherapist, he specialized in work with disruptive and oppositional children and teens. He has taught parent training classes for the past 25 years, and a discipline skills training class he developed for parents of delinquents was awarded the Champion of Youth Award by Oakland County Youth Assisatnce in 2006 and 1993’s Outstanding Education Program by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.

For the last 21 years he has written the “Coping With Kids” column for The Oakland Press and has been guest writer of the “Coping With Kids” column in Working Mother Magazine. He has written several books,including the bestselling Eight Weeks to a Well Behaved Child, in which he scheduled his strategies into a week-by-week series of courses emphasizing the need to set firm limits as children grow.
